The Ministers at Oak Hills Church
Gentlemen,
This letter is written to the leadership of Oak Hills Church as a gift to you and as a way of saying thanks for your weekly words of encouragement. My wife and I really appreciate the service God has provided through your ministry. I can't thank you enough, but I'd like to try by offering some of what the Lord has given me. Since we are studying, John 3:16, I thought I would offer some insight He gave me recently. I pray it would bless and encourage you as it has blessed me and the few people I have shared it with.
This particular verse is given towards the end of a conversation as Jesus answered a series of questions from Nicodemus about how one enters the Kingdom of God. Interestingly, the answer to "how" one enters the kingdom had already been addressed in the earlier part of their discussion. John 3:16 is our Lord's explanation of "why" he elected to do it this way. The giveaway that Jesus had moved from the "how" to the "why" is found in the first word of the verse. It begins with the conjunction "for" or "because". Many people miss this fact and use it as the "how" answer, instead of the "why" answer. This causes confusion and the result is that many miss the natural flow of the conversation as it moves from what, how, when, and why one is able to enter the kingdom. What follows is what the Lord gave me for you, so that you may more fully appreciate the content of His plan and pass it along to others who desperately need to hear it.
